Art Deco Apartment on Butte Montmartre
This apartment is located in an Art Deco period building on Butte Montmartre in Paris. We first listened to the new owners, aesthetes wishing to privilege more sustained colors to give more relief to their living space. The interior has been restored in the architectural spirit of the building and the district, by adding moldings, cornices, rosettes and bases in harmony with the spirit and history of the place.
Giving relief also means playing with the volumes of the apartment. We proposed to paint the baseboards, cornices, doors and windows in more sustained colors than the walls, thus creating unexpected perspectives and depths. Unexpected too, the decor inserted on the dining room wall that invites the viewer to look at a garden perspective, as if on an imaginary exterior. In the lounge area, on the contrary, we played the sophistication card with an Art Deco fireplace framed by tapestry panels. Aged brass slats give the reading area a hushed and soothing atmosphere, while serving to conceal the television.
All the decoration has been made with furniture and objects of curiosity found by the owners. Our only watchword to respect this eclectic spirit has been a skillful arrangement to enhance each object while preserving the harmony of the place, in accordance with the aesthetic personality of the new occupants.
